Predator: Badlands Brings a New Predator Perspective

Fans of the Alien vs. Predator universe have been anticipating a new movie, but what was just revealed is a rather unexpected development. The premise of the film, according to the recently released first teaser trailer, is not to show the well-known monster from the big screen once again killing his victims. Instead, the alien hunter himself, expelled from the clan, is the protagonist.

Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi is playing the role of Dek, a young Predator forced to leave his community. He appears to be the antagonist in the film’s plot; however, the trailers depict a young man who is the defender of his family, whom he must care for alongside a Weyland-Yutani android Thia (Elle Fanning). According to the first teaser trailer, the ultimate enemy that they will have to protect themselves from is “unkillable”.

Predator: Badlands will be a new attempt by 20th Century Studios to develop the lore and expand the universe, but with this film, they also decided to make the great monster of the universe the main character of their narrative. Badlands will not have direct continuity with other Predator stories, but for now, at least, it is clear that much of the action will take place on the Predator planet.

Star of the film and fan-favorite character, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek.

In judging the comments, at least one event in the film will take place on the Predator home world. A large predator society can also be seen in the teaser trailer, which can also become a major plot detail. In the past, the home world of predators was not part of the direct Predator mythology, but in order to get more resources and money from production, the stories in the films, including the concept of the alien home planet, were more or less deliberately kept in the background.

Fans have also been encouraged by the work of director and screenwriter Dan Trachtenberg, who previously worked on the film Prey (2022). In Prey, Trachtenberg focused not on the battles and the mythology, but on a simple story about two fighters in the 118th-century American wilderness. However, he had previously received the recognition of critics and the audience, for which the video on Hulu raked in over $ 40 million. Badlands is due to be released on November 7, 2024, and is a rare attempt to not only turn one of the world’s most known and beloved monsters into a hero but also expand on its mythology. But for now, the film has only revealed the first teaser trailer, with the bulk of it likely to be a prequel to the trailers.

Another notable fact is that, according to FandomWire, it is the first time in the film franchise’s history that a Predator film has been so close to a Weyland-Yutani Corporation android, created by people. This should be of particular interest to the Alien franchise fans who are accustomed to finding many small things and features in the crossover elements.
