Idaho’s Padel Courts Expand, Aiming for 2028 Olympic Dreams
Padel Gains Momentum in Idaho
From Boise to Coeur d’Alene and Twin Falls to Idaho Falls, a new sport is energizing communities across the Gem State. Padel — a fast-paced racquet sport combining elements of tennis and squash — has arrived in Idaho, and it’s quickly finding a home among athletes and families alike.
“Padel has exploded faster than we expected,” said a Boise club manager. “It’s fun, it’s accessible, and it gets people active — that’s what Idaho loves most.”
As one of the most community-oriented states in the country, Idaho’s embrace of padel reflects its values of connection, teamwork, and outdoor living.
New Courts Transform Local Sports Culture
Over the past two years, Idaho has seen a surge in new padel courts opening across major cities and small towns. Boise leads the way with state-of-the-art facilities, while Meridian and Coeur d’Alene are following with their own padel developments.
“We started with a few trial events, and interest grew instantly,” said a developer in Meridian. “People were lining up to play before the paint even dried on the courts.”
Recreation centers are also joining the movement by converting underused tennis and pickleball spaces into modern padel courts. The goal is to make the sport more accessible to the state’s growing player base.
The Olympic Dream Inspires Growth
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have given Idaho’s padel community an extra dose of inspiration. Although the sport has not yet been added to the official Olympic program, global and national organizations — including Padel Federation USA — are campaigning for its inclusion.
“The idea that padel could appear at the LA Olympics has everyone talking,” said a coach from Boise. “It’s motivating local players and helping the sport grow faster than anyone expected.”
Clubs are organizing exhibition matches, beginner clinics, and friendly tournaments tied to the Olympic buzz, introducing newcomers to the sport and building a stronger statewide network.
Youth and College Programs Gain Traction
Idaho’s universities and youth organizations are playing a key role in the sport’s development. Boise State University recently introduced padel as part of its recreational sports program, and students have responded with enthusiasm.
“It’s social, it’s quick, and it’s addictive,” said a Boise State student organizer. “Once you play once, you want to keep going.”
Youth programs in Twin Falls and Nampa are also integrating padel into their after-school activities, giving kids a new way to stay active and engaged. Coaches say the doubles format encourages communication and teamwork, which makes it an ideal sport for young players.
A Sport That Fits Idaho’s Way of Life
Padel’s rise in Idaho isn’t just about competition — it’s about community. The sport’s doubles format naturally promotes collaboration, while its inclusive style makes it suitable for all ages and skill levels.
“Padel brings people together,” said a Coeur d’Alene resident. “It’s competitive but friendly — exactly what makes it work here.”
Weekend tournaments, social leagues, and family-friendly events are becoming a regular part of local recreation schedules, helping establish padel as one of Idaho’s most exciting new pastimes.
Idaho’s Growing Role in America’s Padel Story
As padel expands across the United States, Idaho is carving out a place as one of the sport’s most promising emerging regions. With new courts under construction, active participation from universities, and an engaged community base, the state is contributing meaningfully to America’s padel growth.
“Idaho may not be the first state you think of for international sports,” said a regional developer, “but what’s happening here shows how powerful community enthusiasm can be.”
As the world turns its eyes toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Idaho’s players, coaches, and clubs are uniting behind a shared vision — to make padel a lasting part of the state’s sporting identity and a symbol of its commitment to connection, health, and growth.
