Ethereum’s next major network upgrade Pectra is planned for release in March 2025. The update consolidates key proposals Prague and Electra to improve Ethereum’s execution and consensus layers.   • Smart Accounts: The Pectra upgrade introduces smart accounts as one of its most significant new features. This functionality enables standard Ethereum user accounts to operate as smart contracts on a temporary basis. The new capabilities allow users to execute batch transactions while paying gas fees through multiple cryptocurrencies. The feature extends user interaction options and enhances network usability.
  • Lower Transaction Fees: Users of Ethereum will benefit from lower gas fees because of enhanced data processing and storage methods. Reducing transaction costs is critical for widespread adoption given that high fees remain a persistent obstacle for developers and users.

  • Account Abstraction (EIP-7702): The proposal enables EOAs to operate as smart contract accounts on a temporary basis. The enhancement of user interaction through this proposal allows for advanced functionalities such as transaction bundling and payment of gas fees using different tokens.
  • Data Scaling with Blobs: EIP-7742 enables dynamic changes to the quantity of data blobs that each block contains. Future scaling becomes more manageable because Layer-2 networks benefit from this system. EIP-7691 allows Ethereum to process twice as many blobs per block which boosts data throughput and reduces costs even when usage peaks.
  • Improved Validator Onboarding: The processing of validator deposits now happens at the consensus layer through EIP-6110. The system becomes more secure and efficient by cutting potential security risks and reducing the wait time for new validators to join.
  • Smart Contract-Controlled Withdrawals: EIP-7002 enables validators to execute withdrawal operations through smart contracts. The system becomes more reliable for staking platforms through added automation and flexibility while increased transparency helps build user trust.

These proposals constitute the foundation of the Pectra upgrade. These engineering solutions work to solve existing problems while building Ethereum for a future with millions of users and numerous dApps in an expanding Web3 ecosystem.
