John Wick Spin-Off Ballerina Gets One Final Trailer Push

The Keanu Reeves-led John Wick action movie series has kept going for nearly a decade. For a franchise that reinvigorated hyper-violent gunplay on the big screen in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, that’s no mean feat. One spin-off, Ballerina, has just arrived in theaters and is likely to be the first of several more to come. Directed by Stefano Sollima, the Ana de Armas–starring movie released on February 22, with two sequels currently in production.

The mainline John Wick franchise has typically taken a year-long break between each new film in the series, after years in which the big screen adventures of the titular character were released every six months. Ballerina was set to break that record, with the first trailer being released back in September 2024 — over a year before it finally hit theaters. A second trailer was also released in March 2025, meaning fans of Wick’s adventures had one last big trailer to hype themselves up before the movie dropped in theaters on February 22.

The new trailer dives right into the meat and potatoes of what fans have come to expect from a John Wick movie. Tense, balletic close-range fight choreography from Ana de Armas and an endless parade of faces from the series. Even long-time Wick antagonist Ian McShane and deceased series icon Lance Reddick appear in the clip as Winston and Charon, respectively.

Ana de Armas takes the lead role in Ballerina as Eve Macarro. The assassin, whose story was teased in the first trailer last year, is a member of the Ruska Roma, a fictional crime syndicate first seen in the third John Wick movie. While the previous movies focused on a retired assassin taking brutal vengeance on those who cross him, the events of Ballerina overlap with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. This allows for a chance to see John Wick once more in theaters and gives de Armas’ new character something of a dance-off in what is likely to be the last role the late Lance Reddick will be seen in.

Set in the same continuity as the previous trilogy and Parabellum, Ballerina follows de Armas’ character Eve as she trains to become a ballerina-assassin in the ranks of the Ruska Roma, a multinational criminal syndicate that helps Wick evade bounty hunters in the third movie. Directed by an imposing Russian Mafia matron known only as the Director (Anjelica Huston), Ballerina tells the story of Eve Macarro, a young orphan whose world was torn apart when her father was killed.

Orphaned at a young age and taken in by the Ruska Roma, Eve is trained in their specialty: taking brutal vengeance as a ballerina-assassin. Determined to avenge the death of her father, Eve and her family get swept up in a blood feud with the movie’s main villain, a gangland leader known as the Chancellor, played by Gabriel Byrne.

For Wick fans, new and returning cast members are all over the latest trailer. Ana de Armas headlines the cast as a lead assassin, while other returning actors from the franchise include Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane. Unity Phelan and Frankie Lime also return, as do a host of new faces, including Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Nogi, Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda, whose role in the movie remains under wraps.

This allows for a chance to see John Wick once more in theaters and gives de Armas’ new character something of a dance-off in what is likely to be the last role the late Lance Reddick will be seen in.
