No Tour Yet, But Bieber’s Fans Are Reading Into Every Post
Justin Bieber did it again. The pop star has re-sparked a conversation over drugs, sobriety, and personal freedom without even saying a word. On Sunday, 31-year-old Bieber reposted a video clip on Instagram without providing any context for the repost or a caption.
The short video shows a now-viral exchange on season five, episode two of Iyanla: Fix My Life between the late rapper DMX and Iyanla Vanzant, a life coach and spiritual teacher. In the nearly minute-long video, Vanzant asks the late rapper if he wanted to live “as a clean man,” to which he replied, “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” He eventually went on to say he “didn’t even believe that” before Vanzant told the rapper he’d be “a clear, pure vessel for the voice of God.” DMX replied, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God.”
Justin Bieber’s latest post is coming from an account by a Los Angeles-based marijuana dispensary named Gassy. The original post from the IG page has been liked by over 700,000 people at the time of this article being published, and features the same quote by DMX as Bieber’s reposted. Once again, no caption or further context is provided by the popular singer.
Faith, Family, and Shifting Priorities
Justin Bieber has spoken openly about spirituality and faith for many years. His fathering roots and connection with Churchome pastor Judah Smith have been the subject of many conversations around his career and personal life. This has not changed since he transitioned from teen icon to husband, father, and mature artist.
The couple welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, just under a year ago. Bieber’s representatives have stated that fatherhood has “changed his priorities.” In recent months, fans have commented about his thinning appearance and health, sparked by Instagram posts that showed the singer holding bongs and in the background of smoke. Representatives for Bieber have quickly come to his defense and refuted any claims of drug use.
In February of this year, a rep for Justin Bieber released a statement to TMZ about the allegations, writing, “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true. He is in one of the best places in his life.” The representative went on to note Bieber was “learning how to let go of people and business relationships that don’t serve him anymore and leaning on his family, music, and of course, God.”
As mentioned before, recreational marijuana is legal in the state of California. This means that images of the singer with bongs are not a sign of illegal behavior or substance abuse, even if they spark worry from fans. More so, they’ve created another dialogue for many entertainers over the legality of marijuana and personal choice.
New Album and Possible Tour Dates
The Instagram post comes just after Bieber dropped his seventh studio album, Swag, on July 11. The album was met with critical acclaim and features short comedic interludes between Justin and internet personality Druski. During the playful skits, the two make light conversation while Bieber somberly and sarcastically discusses his life and emotions. The jokes range from profound, such as anxiety and feeling misunderstood in the limelight, to flippant quips about how he always brushes his teeth after sex.
Listeners have picked up on a few possible themes on the new Bieber album, from processing and singing about his past challenges, to his dedication to his wife, and his place as a father. As with much of his recent music, he’s addressing some of the lessons he’s still working on from his personal and public growth.
With Swag performing as high as expected, fans are now speculating on an Australia tour. It’s a popular theory, though there have been no confirmations by Bieber himself or Frontier Touring. Rolling Stone reached out to both parties in their reporting, and while Frontier Touring did not give an outright denial, the statement on Justin Bieber’s Australia tour was that the organization had “no information” about potential tour dates.
Fans of the popular singer are holding on to the idea, as Bieber canceled the remainder of his Justice World Tour in 2022 due to health concerns. A potential tour for Justin Bieber would likely mean it’s not only another tour, but a comeback.
For now, Bieber is choosing to be present with his growing family, focus on what’s next, and stay humble. Whether he was trying to say something with the Instagram post or if the DMX video truly meant something to him in terms of personal freedom, religion, or spiritual connection, it’s clear we all have something to talk about.
