Nurse Chapel Caught Between Spock and Dr. Korby in S3
Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. The third installment of the Star Trek series is set to premiere on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The trailer was made available after Paramount only released a short teaser for the season on April 5.
Season 2 of Strange New Worlds ended on a rather serious cliffhanger. In the season finale, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise was helping the Federation colonists fight back against the Gorn, who were invading their colony world. However, while on the ground, the Gorn attacked again, killing several crew members. Several other people, including crew members, were captured and taken hostage. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) then had a tough choice to make. He could either follow Starfleet’s command to stand down or break rank and try to help. Naturally, Pike chose the latter and ordered his crew to do the same in the season finale.
A short preview was shown at New York City Comic-Con last October. The one-minute clip picks up right where the second season finale left off. The teaser included an exciting, high-stakes, signature-type space battle of the series against the Gorn. The new trailer offers more of that and a clear tease for a proper resolution of the Gorn story arc.
The trailer also teases a slew of new adventures and dangers for the Enterprise. While the Gorn story will reach its climax in the next installment, the crew is far from out of the woods. The teaser also shows the crew will face a new villain who will truly test their allegiance, bravery, and mettle.
Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is said to have more than a few departures from classic Trek storytelling. The series will continue to alternate between regular episodes and story-arc-driven installments. However, this time around, the series will also have episodes that explore faith and duty, romance, comedy, and mystery. Paramount+ also teases at least one genre shift that has not been seen in other Star Trek series before.
The main cast of Strange New Worlds will return for Season 3, and more members of the previous seasons’ recurring cast will reprise their roles. Some of the returning main and recurring cast members of Strange New Worlds include Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christopher Tyler Dray, Cote de Pablo, Evan Evagora, Albert-Michelon Frederic II, Jennifer Kim, Mel Silvio, Terry Serpico, and Lyndsy Fonseca.
One of the most significant cast additions is Cillian O’Sullivan, who will appear as Dr. Roger Korby. Korby is a character who was originally introduced by Michael Strong in The Original Series. However, O’Sullivan will be playing him as seen in the Strange New Worlds continuity. In that continuity, Korby was a “beloved archaeologist, medical archaeologist expert, and the long-lost fiancé of Nurse Christine Chapel” (Jess Bush). Korby’s unexpected return to the Enterprise will no doubt cause some conflict, especially since Chapel is developing a relationship with Spock (Peck).
Guest stars Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt have also been confirmed to join the cast of Strange New Worlds for Season 3. Darby and Oswalt are both comedians who have starred in many of their own shows and movies. The April teaser also had teases of this genre diversity, as it also showed action-packed space adventures and the lighter, character-driven side stories.
The official trailer is no exception. The Enterprise crew’s downtime is also teased in the new trailer. The new cast members bonding with their crewmates and working through some of their romantic entanglements is also teased. There is also a moment in the trailer that shows a dangerous, exploding science experiment. The season also appears to have several different tones that will appeal to a wide variety of Trek fans.
In one scene, James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is shown stepping into the captain’s seat of the Enterprise. The exact role that Kirk will play in the current adventures is unclear, but he does at one point take command of the ship in this trailer. While this scene of Kirk in the captain’s chair lasts only a few seconds, it is obvious that the experience will be a serious learning one. Pike (Mount) is seen telling Kirk in that scene, “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.”
One final thing to note about the new trailer is how it ends on a rare comedic moment involving Spock and Oswalt’s Vulcan character. The scene has Spock stopping by to meet and greet the new cast members. The Vulcan seems to be rather confused, but Spock is going to show him how to high-five. After first succeeding, he then does the classic “too slow” move as asked to try “down low.” The confused Vulcan asks, “Why would you do that?” Spock simply responds, “Because you are too slow.” It is a small moment, but it is a classic one and very much what has made the series known to so many fans.

Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already been renewed. The next installment of the series is going to have nearly two months’ worth of new episodes this time around.
