Chevrolet is making waves once more—this time with a startling change of the Corvette. Meet the ZR1X, an upcoming performance flagship that gives the fire-breathing twin-turbo V8 electric power, producing a 1,250-horsepower hybrid monster with real-world supercar-crushing potential and all-wheel drive.

Arriving late 2025, the ZR1X combines American grit, engineering, and creativity into what might be the boldest Corvette ever.

A Hybrid Powertrain That Roars

Based on the ZR1, the ZR1X brings a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 to the mid-engine C8 layout. Alone, this engine generates 1,064 hp (783 kW). Chevrolet, though, was not happy with merely internal combustion. They included a front-mounted electric motor for the ZR1X to drive output even higher.

A 1.9 kWh battery pack powers this electric unit; 26% more energy-dense than the one used in the previous E-Ray hybrid Corvette. Combining with the V8, that added electric thrust generates 1,250 hp (919 kW), adding 186 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

From 0–60 mph, that power enables the ZR1X rocket to reach under two seconds. AWD from a stop maximizes grip. But the front axle disconnects for drag reduction—10 mph above in the E-Ray—once the car reaches 160 mph.

Chevrolet also claims the ZR1X can match the 233 mph (375km/h) top speed attained by the ZR1 last year in Germany with that configuration. Even more remarkably, the ZR1 that made that run carried additional ballast to replicate the hybrid weight of the ZR1X, so demonstrating the potential always built in.

Greater Brakes, More Intelligent Technology, and Track-Ready Modes

Slowing a car from those rates calls for heavy hardware. For this reason, the ZR1X features 10-piston calipers and 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic rotors supplied from Alcon. These are the biggest brakes fitted to a Corvette ever.

With 1.9 Gs of force, the ZR1X slowed from 180 to 120 mph during Nürburgring testing, so proving the stopping power this machine demands.

Still, the ZR1X is brainy, not just brawn. After the E-Ray displayed some erratic behavior—such as torque steer and front motor disengagement— Chevrolet dedicated considerable time rewriting the software. The ZR1X runs over those eccentricities.

Chief Engineer Josh Holder said that tire deformation caused most of the E-Ray’s difficulties reading sensor data under hard acceleration. This is corrected by the revised ZR1X system, which guarantees dependable grip and smooth power delivery—even in edge-cornering.

Given that its convertible form probably weights close to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg), the car can now simultaneously hold 1 G of lateral and longitudinal acceleration—no small achievement.

Chevy also debuted Tour, Weather, Endurance, Qualifying, and a race-derived Push to Pass driving modes. For best acceleration or overtakes, that last one releases the full 1,250 horsepower in brief bursts.

Although it is not confirmed, electric-only driving range is expected to reflect the 3–5 miles (5–8km) below 45 mph of the E-Ray. Obviously, here performance comes first rather than efficiency.

Although matching or surpassing hypercars like Ferrari’s SF90 or McLaren’s Artura, the ZR1 priced at $174,995 may still come in well below.
