Boise Farmers Market to Open Winter Market at New Location
The Boise Farmers Market is preparing to settle into its new permanent home at the Idaho Botanical Garden, with the inaugural Winter Market at this location scheduled to open on Saturday, November 7. This move marks a milestone after years of operating in temporary spaces for its off-season markets.
More Than 70 Local Vendors to Participate
This winter season, the market will feature over 70 local vendors. A large covered area will accommodate more than 40 vendors, with additional vendors set up outside, providing a diverse selection of seasonal produce, locally raised meats, cheese, breads, and other goods produced in the area.
Market Gains Permanence After Years of Moving
Amber Beierle, executive director of the Boise Farmers Market, emphasized the significance of having a stable, predictable location. "Now, we don't have to move around, be afraid that things will move around us, not a ton of construction around us," Beierle said. "We're finally home, home." The move to Idaho Botanical Garden provides the market with a sense of permanence it has sought for years.
A New Setting and a New Mural
The Boise Farmers Market has spent its regular April through October season at Shoreline Drive since 2019, while its winter market shifted between various locations. With its new permanent home, the market extends its operation for an annual season running April through December at the Botanical Garden.
Local artist Bobby Gaytan has contributed a new mural to the space, highlighting the farm-to-table journey of food. Gaytan, a regular visitor to the market, said his mural incorporates the variety of offerings and community spirit of the market. "One of my earlier ideas was just to kind of incorporate all of those things into the scene here," Gaytan shared.
Laying the Foundation for Future Expansion
The relocation to the Idaho Botanical Garden is also a part of a long-term vision. Plans are underway for a permanent indoor home for the market as part of the Botanical Garden's future expansion. Both the market and the garden are working to secure funding, though a construction timeline has not yet been announced.
Welcoming the Community to Shop Local
Shoppers at the Winter Market can expect a range of local goods, including seasonal produce and other locally produced food. The market will be located at 2355 Old Penitentiary Road and will open at 9 a.m. on November 7. The move aims to create a lasting space for community food exchange and to highlight the work of local vendors in Idaho.
